Music is a mystery for people who play it, write it, listen to it, and write about it. The only thing I can really do when I try to say something about music is assume.

Clara Rockmore plays Acrhon's Hebrew Melody
This deserves a post all its own. Make sure to watch and listen to the rest of the Rockmore performances on the sidebar. I know you will.
Her control of dynamics and attack is just amazing. The matryomin orchestra is indeed deeply weird, and their parallel thirds aren't exactly parallel, but Rockmore is dazzling. Thanks for posting this.
I am active as a composer, a violist, a violinist, a recorder player, and as a teacher. I have been keeping this space in the blogosphere alive with assumptions about music (and assorted other things) since 2005.

I'm pickin' up good vibrations. She's givin' me excitations. Good, good, good, good vibrations. : )
But seriously, that was a beautiful performance.

There's a documentary about Rockmore and Leon Theremin that I just love. Her musicianship is simply uncanny.
