Autumn Leaves recorded by Emanuel Vardi (viola) and Barbra Streisand in 1966
Michel Legrand was the conductor for the recording session, and Emanuel Vardi improvised the accompaniment at sight from just a chord chart. This was the first (and only) take.
Part of my affection for this gorgeous performance is B.S's masterful use of vibrato. When employed it is tasteful and restrained. Even better, sometimes it is not used at all... to marvellous effect. Thank you fro posting it!
I am active as a composer, a violist, a violinist, a recorder player, and as a teacher. I have been keeping this space in the blogosphere alive with assumptions about music (and assorted other things) since 2005.
