Music is a mystery for people who play it, write it, listen to it, and write about it. The only thing I can really do when I try to say something about music is assume.

Who says there's only one right way to hold the fiddle and the bow?
This guy is playing backwards: bowing--using a very unusual bow hold--with his left hand, and holding the fiddle upside-down. His Czardas sounds just fine!
Wow, I've seen gamba-like instrument holds but nothing like that. Since he uses his thumb for the base finger, he can get a really big stretch without leaving position.
One other benefit that I can see, for very lazy players, is you can practice in bed!
I am active as a composer, a violist, a violinist, a recorder player, and as a teacher. I have been keeping this space in the blogosphere alive with assumptions about music (and assorted other things) since 2005.
