The Tiniest Jewish Congregation in the Country, in the Tribune

The article about the Mattoon Jewish Community Center (my little shul on the prairie) is on the first page of today's Chicago Tribune.

And on top of everything else, you play shofar! Gazounds! It appears you have to subscribe to the Trib to see the article, so I hope there will be another way for you to get the photo out to us at least!

I changed the link to their normal website (which somehow I managed to find). You can sign up for what seems to be a limited subscription for free.

What a treat to read this article. My cousin from Chicago sent it to me.
My family and I lived in Mattoon from 1952 until 1962. At that time there were about 20 Jewish families. My father, Eugene Noskin, was a surgeon and was responsible for going to Cincinatti to make arrangements for a student rabbi to come every other week. Up until that time all the boys went either to Champagne or Chicago for Bar Mitzvah training. I was the first Bat Mitzvah in 1959 and it was held at the local auditorium.
I'm so glad to hear that you still exist!!
