Music is a mystery for people who play it, write it, listen to it, and write about it. The only thing I can really do when I try to say something about music is assume.

From a 1913-1914 Boston Symphony Program
How many composers in this ad are women? I count four. My latest challenge/project/obsession is Marion Bauer's EXCELLENT sonata for viola and piano. It's only been recorded once, but it is in print and available (though not in the Petrucci Library).
I am active as a composer, a violist, a violinist, a recorder player, and as a teacher. I have been keeping this space in the blogosphere alive with assumptions about music (and assorted other things) since 2005.

The Bauer was just released on a new recording by our principal violist Joël Belgique - http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/joelbelgiqueandcarylewis
Thanks for this. The CD Baby administrators neglected to include Bauer's name on their track list.
