Music is a mystery for people who play it, write it, listen to it, and write about it. The only thing I can really do when I try to say something about music is assume.

Museum of Music Printing
This online museum will tell you just about everything you always wanted to know (and a whole bunch of stuff you didn't even know you wanted to know) about the technologies of music printing between the Middle Ages and the computer age.
What a great site! I do remember seeing that music typewriter--I think it might have been Matthew Guerrieri (a/k/a soho the dog) who posted an image of it. I see the museum has several examples of music typewriters. I wonder how widely they were ever used.
Thank you for the link! I can't wait until I have a little more time to research this. I just added your wonderful blog to my bloglist :) Have an excellent day Elaine.
I am active as a composer, a violist, a violinist, a recorder player, and as a teacher. I have been keeping this space in the blogosphere alive with assumptions about music (and assorted other things) since 2005.
