Sign a Petition to save the New York City Opera

My friend Lucy Morganstern, a member of the New York City Opera Orchestra, sent me some information about a move to send the New York City Opera out of their newly-renovated theater in Lincoln Center. You can go here to read about the New York City Opera's situation, and sign a petition to help make their case to stay in Lincoln Center.

Back in the 1960s, lots of people were upset that the Metropolitan Opera was leaving their long-time home on Broadway for Lincoln Center, even though the old house was antiquated, rotting, and a firetrap. The Met has done okay in the new house, demonstrating that the theater and the company are not one.

NYCO has been making noises about leaving Lincoln Center for nearly 10 years. Saving the company has much more to do with fundraising and good management than with where they are performing. If keeping them in Lincoln Center becomes the focus of efforts to save NYCO, that won't really help. What if they can do five operas/year by staying in Lincoln Center, but 10 (more than SF Opera!) if they move to smaller venues? What's preferable?

I don't know how to set my blog to do the follow-up posting thing!

I don't think it's something you can configure. I ran into an unpredictable sign-in issue; Blogger somehow did not realize that I was already signed into my Google account in the browser.
