Music is a mystery for people who play it, write it, listen to it, and write about it. The only thing I can really do when I try to say something about music is assume.

Here's a Bit of Wimsical Bitonality by Germaine Tailleferre from Yesterday's Concert
She wrote this in 1973. (You will need to click on the link if you are using a reader.)

Re: "a Bit of Wimsical Bitonality by Germaine Tailleferre," I notice that it seems wholly functional tonality even in its extended harmonies. Quite a fine choice given that so many in the era chose simply to find the harshest dissonances to stress, as if that proved modernity -- which it did not and still does not. Brava to the composer. Brave to the violinist. Bravi tutti for all.
I am active as a composer, a violist, a violinist, a recorder player, and as a teacher. I have been keeping this space in the blogosphere alive with assumptions about music (and assorted other things) since 2005.

I'm glad you liked it. I'm very excited to work on another of her pieces for next year's concert. Tailleferre is a composer of total class!
