Music is a mystery for people who play it, write it, listen to it, and write about it. The only thing I can really do when I try to say something about music is assume.
Excellent--thanks for the links. Do you know anything about who the players are? The youTube poster just says "recorded France" which is sorta minimal...
Thanks. I definitely noticed that they play without a conductor and I was really enjoying the special chamber music language of head-bobs and shoulder dips and eye contact etc.--same thing happens in a duo or trio context too, of course, and it's a deep source of satisfaction to me as a player.
I think that these French people have an amazing sense of ensemble, and I absolutely love the video techniques that they use to help navigate through what for many people is a rather intimidating musical map. When all is said and done (and played) the result is really beautiful music.
I am active as a composer, a violist, a violinist, a recorder player, and as a teacher. I have been keeping this space in the blogosphere alive with assumptions about music (and assorted other things) since 2005.

The ensemble seems to be led by David Grimal (notice that they play without a conductor). He has a great website, and is a fantastic violinist.

My class of novices even thought so.
