Music is a mystery for people who play it, write it, listen to it, and write about it. The only thing I can really do when I try to say something about music is assume.
A little research has led me to the not so embarrassing conclusion that this is from the Symphony No.2 of Ferdinand Ries. I'm not sure I'd ever even heard of the man, but the ZKO has recorded all his symphonies. It's terrific for them to choose a lesser known composer, but it would be nice for them to give the guy some credit.
I am active as a composer, a violist, a violinist, a recorder player, a CD reviewer, and as a teacher. I began my professional musical life as a flutist, and spent a lot of quality time as a baroque flutist, but both of those instruments spend their time tucked away in a drawer, while my violin, viola, and my viola d'amore are often tucked under my chin.

This is fantastic! Do you know what the piece is? (I'm grudgingly admitting that I do not. Hope the answer isn't too embarrassing.)
I don't know what it is either, so when somebody answers our question we can both be embarrassed!
