Bach, Bantock, and Cui

The heading of this post looks a little like the masthead of a law firm, but these people are the composers who wrote the music for a concert I am playing tomorrow night at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois, to which you are invited.

It is very easy to get to Lake Land College from I-57 (it's about an hour south of Champaign--take the Route 45 exit and turn left). Once you get on campus, look for signs for the Administration Building on the south side of the campus. Here's a map that may help.

Wow, Elaine, what a kind invitation. I can't take you up on this one, but I'd love to make another. I've got to figure out how many hours my center of the world is away from yours.

I would really very much like to hear and see you play, especially after your insightful comment about play. You are so right about the element of play in performance. There is a sort of dolphin-like moment when the individual players ditch the score and start to frolic. It doesn't always happen, but when it does, the results charm and bedazzle.

The program looks fun and challenging.

Nice to hear a portion of your recital perhaps on an MP3 post to your blog?

If you send me a postal address by way of e-mail, I'll send you a copy of the recording.

. . . or you can hear the Andante non troppo movement of the Cui here.
